The Malaysian and Thai Governments has signed an agreement on agricultural cooperation on 26 Feb 1979.
A few meetings of Joint Development of Golok River Basin were held since 1979.
A Golok River Basin joint study was conducted by the Snowy Mountains Engineering Corporation (SMEC), Australia under technical aid. The study completed in 1986 proposed:-
Flood mitigation measures, Golok River bund
Dam (for irrigation and flood mitigation)
Golok River Mouth Improvement works, etc.
The Golok River Mouth Improvement works was identified as urgent and pursued by both parties.
A joint study conducted by SMEC, completed in 1994 proposed breakwater and shoreline protection works (i.e. to construct 30 nos. of groynes along Thai shoreline)

Implementation of the Golok River Mouth Improvement Project
Detailed feasibility study and detailed design were conducted by SMEC for project implementation.
The Malaysian and Thai Governments has signed an agreement on the Golok River Mouth improvement project on 8 March 1997. |
